It can be very exciting to be setting out on a new venture, creating something unique, leading who knows where? It takes hard work to succeed no matter how small or how risky your plans are.
One way of starting up is to step outside your current job and become a locum or consultant in the same field, possibly selling your services back to your old employer, among others. This can be the simplest and lowest cost route to becoming self-employed, but you still need to set yourself up legally, registered for tax and national insurance. You need to ensure a flow of clients, manage your time and handle your own finances.
At the other end of the scale, you might have grand ambitions to launch a scaled business. You might require financing, staff and premises, and you will certainly need business and financial plans. Any lender, such as a bank, will need to see how and why you think you will make money, and repay the loan.
I ran my own public relations consultancy for 20 years in London before qualifying and retraining as a counsellor and coach. I have also written the book A Woman’s Guide to Working for Herself, so I have a lot of experience and knowledge of starting, building and running a successful business.
My coaching will guide you through the idea creation, planning and implementation of your business venture. I can set you in the right direction for advice and support you through the initial, uncertain times.
