I have just read this memoir by psychiatrist Linda Gask who is an expert in depression and has also suffered from severe depression for much of her life herself. It is a very honest account of the despair and anguish she feels but it also has hope. She describes her life, the relationships and events that contributed to her illness and how a combination of medication and therapy have helped her to survive. She also recounts sessions with some of her clients which describe a range of emotional and psychiatric conditions that they face. These cases are enlightening offering lessons that can help others with mental health problems.
Despite the challenging subject matter the book is highly readable.
